It took some time to completely finish it because the binding was somewhat fiddlier than I thought. Before sewing it I fastened the binding with needles. Since I have no creme-colored sewing yarn in my stash (but lots of blacks:-D) I decided to sew the binding with the same bright red I used throughout the whole piece. Maybe a mistake because it makes the seam stand out so much against the bright fabric PLUS you can see *every* mistake that happens. So the binding got a bright red stitching all around and although I did my best to keep the seam all even, some mistakes happened and some parts don`t look too even actually. Like, in this part. Ok, this edge is probably the worst on the whole blanket but I guess you get my point. You can also see a few light stitches I did by hand to keep the binding down as desired. I did them with a brightly, lightly pink yarn (dont ask!!!) and it worked so fine it´s almost invisible! Had I known this only before doing the seam with the bright red, argh!!! On the other hand I just love how this handstitched seam came out and wis I had done so all throughout the whole piece but it´s too late now of course.
What I´ve learned on this project:
- the potential to botch it can be found in any stage of a craft project
- sew patchwork by hand and only by hand!
As far as I know, the piece should receive some quilting as well, if I should really decide to do so I´ll do it by hand in any case.
